What is the difference between characters with and without spaces?
"With spaces" counts every character including spaces, tabs, and line breaks. "Without spaces" excludes all whitespace and only counts visible characters. Many writing platforms use the no-spaces count as the standard.
How are words counted?
Words are counted by splitting on whitespace (spaces, tabs, line breaks). Each sequence of non-whitespace characters counts as one word.
How are sentences detected?
Sentences are split by period (.), question mark (?), exclamation mark (!), and their CJK equivalents. If none of these punctuation marks are present but the text has content, it counts as at least 1 sentence.
